Linfield manager David Jeffrey today moved to clear up confusion over his bid to bring Ballymena United striker Kevin Kelbie to Windsor Park.

As revealed in the Ireland’s Saturday Night, the Blues have made a £20,000 offer for the Scottish frontman, but this morning the Braidmen were claiming they were unaware of a bid for their player.

Jeffrey, whose squad left Belfast shortly after dawn this morning to head to Croatia for a Champions League tie, insists an official offer has been forwarded.

“I don’t know where Ballymena United are coming from when they say they are unaware of an offer for Kevin Kelbie.,” said Jeffrey.

“I can confirm that our secretary Ken Greer sent an email on Saturday afternoon with an offer.

“We have turned down their offer for Conor Downey and Conor didn’t want to go to Ballymena anyway.”

But for the lack of foresight, Linfield wouldn't even be looking at the Likes of Kelbie, not that he's a poor player, he obvioulsy isn't, but he's just not up to Linfield Standard. A sign of desperation.

end of the day whether we get kelbie or not.. we will still finish a lot higher than BUFC..and be serious now walker wont build a team that will play football he will make a team that kicks, hacks and hoofs same as all his previous teams! and as for kelbie and watson sooner or later the lure of actually winning a trophy will make them leave.

If Jeffrey is serious about wanting Kelbie he should come in with a serious offer not the derisory initial bid. I hope and believe that the BUFC will reject the offer out of hand and Kelbie will be leading the line at Warden Street. Jeffrey can move elsewhere and take his 'substantial' offer with him.

The issue here isn't so much about the value of Kelbie. Its about Jeffrey confirming that BUFC were made an offer in writing and BUFC stating that no such offer was made.
Someone's got it badly wrong ??

No point in looking at Portadown either unless they want Smith.

None of our players who Ronnie wants to keep will be leaving at all. Even if smith was to leave they will have to give a very good offer to take him.

Jeffery can't expect to demand huge fees from clubs for Thompson and then put in insulting and ridiculous offers for other clubs top players.

pay up Jeffery or you will have no frontline this season :)

£20,000 is a derisory offer from Linfield. Kevin Kelbie is worth at least £50,000 if Peter Thompson is worth £100,000. I have no doubt Ballymena will turn this offer down, and Kelbie will stay to lead the Ballymena attack.
Jeffrey might as well look to Portadown for his replacements as there is nothing doing at the Showgrounds.

20k is a totally insulting offer. Are they bidding for only 1 of his legs or something?

I hope Ballymena laugh off that bid and show it the contempt it deserves.

Kelbie is a superb player and worth a heck of alot more than 20k

£20k for Kelbie? No,Roy Walker is building a team at Ballymena, not tearing it apart.Besides the offered amount is rather insulting considering he had been played mostly as a lone frontman and has a good scoring record.Sell our talisman? I cant see it.

Realisically, £20,000 for Kelbie is not cheap if you compare it to the £10k that Walker just offered for Downey, who still has 2 years on his current contract too. I'd be happy to go with a £10k+downey deal but since downey understandably doesn't want to play for BUFC we'll just have to wait and see what Kelbie decides for himself. No club should stand in a players way if he wants to better his career and move on to win countless medals with a top club ;)

No Way should Ballymena relent and let Kelbie go, he has been our top scorer (mostly leading line on his own) for last three seasons, we would be totally mad to let him go, no matter what Linfield offer its not enough to cover the loss Kelbie would be to our team!

No way will we sell Kelbie - certainly not for that money! Linfield can't expect to come in and offer any sort of money and think they are guaranteed to get that player. Roy Walker will build a team capable of challenging for trophies, so why would he sell our best player?

If Davy Jeffrey thinks that our board are going to let Kevin Kelbie go on the cheap then he has another think coming. We don't need or want to sell our mosr prized asset so Mr Jeffrey I suggest you look elsewhere for your strikers. Lack of preparation on your part does not constitute an emergency on ours so toddle along now.
