Lisburn Distillery 1 Coleraine 0

Wednesday, 11 November 2009

Lisburn Distillery take a slender one-nil advantage into the second leg thanks to an Andy Kilmartin strike in the third minute.

The midfielder let fly from 35 yards out and Coleraine keeper Davy O'Hare misjudged the shot, the ball zipping between his outstretched arms into the top of the goal.

After that it was a good open half but neither side threatened either keeper until the 43rd minute when they both missed gilt-edged opportunities.

Darren Boyce raced in between Stuart Thompson and Phil Matthews after a long ball up-field but his shot went wide. Seconds later Peter McCann dispossessed Steven Carson in the Coleraine box, but his low cross was scuffed wide by Gavin Melaugh inside the six-yard box.

Coleraine made more of the running in the second-half but they couldn't make a break-through despite all their build-up play.

On 62 minutes, Whites' Mark Cooling had a chance at the back post but he shot wide.

Coleraine continued pressing and Matthews had to scramble quickly across his goal to save a Carson free-kick before O'Hare made a super stop on 75 minutes to keep out a 25 yard effort from Gary Browne.

Four minutes later another Coleraine attack went close — Stephen Dooley blasted in a shot but while Jody Tolan got a touch he could only put the ball over the bar from eight yards out.

Boyce then fired over as the Bannsiders sought an equaliser but it didn't come.

Whites' boss Tommy Wright will be happy with the clean sheet and one goal edge while counterpart David Platt will feel that he can make possession count for more at home in the second leg.
