Lisburn Distillery manager Tommy Wright cuts refs slack

Tommy Wright is telling his fellow Carling Premiership managers to ‘lay off the referees.’

The Lisburn Distillery boss has grown fed up of reading his counterparts hammer officials and has vowed to give the refs a break — but isn’t promising that he won’t react at some stage.

“When I see or hear of other managers criticising referees I switch off,” said Wright, who will welcome Portadown to Ballyskeagh tomorrow afternoon.

“Since I have come back into management at Distillery I have deliberately tried not to have a go at the referees.

“There have been plenty of decisions that we could have moaned about, but I see the same managers doing it every week and the Sunday papers are full of it.

“I like to think that I have been consistent — although I can’t say that I won’t ever criticise a referee again — and I think it’s better if we lay off the referees.”

Wright will include Thomas Mach in his squad tomorrow.
