Loughgall boss mild on favourites tag

Loughgall manager Niall Currie has laughed off suggestions that his team will go to Portadown tomorrow as favourites to reach the quarter-finals of the Irish Cup.

The Lakeview Park men have taken full points off Portadown in the Irish FA Championship this season — indeed going back to Loughgall’s time in the Premier League they have won all of the last three meetings.

Currie still maintains that his team will never be considered anything but underdogs against their neighbours.

“Outside of Glentoran and Linfield nobody goes to Shamrock Park as favourites,” he said.

“Ronnie McFall has said all season that they shouldn’t be in our league and the resources of the two clubs don’t compare and we don’t bring players in from Scotland.”
