Pressman signs for season to boost ports' trophy hunt

Ronnie McFall has received a major boost ahead of Saturday's clash with league leaders Glentoran.

The Portadown manager got a belated Christmas present when he struck a deal with Kevin Pressman that will keep the goalkeeper at Shamrock Park until the end of the current campaign.

And with the Ports hoping to fight it out for silverware on three fronts in 2007 - the Premier League, the Irish Cup and Setanta Cup - the extension of Pressman's stay is great news for the club.

"Kevin Pressman has been outstanding for us since he came to the club and it was important that we retained his services to the end of the season," said McFall.

"David Miskelly is on the way back from major ankle surgery and isn't ready to come into the first-team yet, so we needed Pressman to stay.

"His record speaks for itself. Before Tuesday's match against Glenavon he'd only conceded one goal in seven matches and he has helped stabilise the defence and give us a real solid look at the back.

"I would like to be scoring more goals - we could have beaten Glenavon more convincingly - and Kevin Braniff will give us another option up front when he becomes available after Saturday's match against Glentoran."

In all, Pressman has kept eight clean-sheets in 14 appearances for the Ports and they are now just a single point behind Linfield and six behind leaders Glentoran in the title race, with the campaign reaching the half-way stage this weekend.
