Rangers go for £1m Healy
Wednesday, 7 January 2009
David Healy’s £1m move to Rangers was a step closer last night after the Glasgow giants admitted they were willing to cash in on their top scorer Kris Boyd.
The Ibrox club turned down a £3m offer for goal machine Boyd from English Championship club Birmingham City but they are expected to make an improved offer for the Scottish star in the coming days.
Boyd is understood to be keen on the move to St Andrews where he would team up with his former Rangers and Scotland boss, Alex McLeish.
Gers chairman David Murray is prepared to do business providing the price is right and boss Walter Smith last week admitted that every player had their price.
With Boyd seemingly heading for the exit door despite bagging 20 goals already this season, moves are afoot to bring Northern Ireland talisman Healy to Scotland.
The Belfast Telegraph revealed last week that the Sunderland hitman was being lined up for a loan move to the Light Blues but with Boyd’s imminent departure, the deal is now more likely to be a permanent one.
If Healy does sign on the dotted line for his boyhood heroes, he will make it a hat-trick of Northern Ireland stars at the Teddy Bears with Steven Davis and
Kyle Lafferty already in the squad.
Healy’s partnership with Lafferty could be the key to the move as they have already shown numerous occasions at international level they can score goals as a front pairing.
Northern Ireland boss Nigel Worthington angered Healy last year when he stated the record goal-scorer leave Sunderland to get first-team football for the good of his international career and a move to Rangers would certainly please all concerned.
As of last night Rangers had not been in contact with Sunderland or Healy but once the Boyd deal goes through communication between all parties will be on the cards.

.

Whatever happened to that competition the Tele had to get the chance to see David Healy playing at the Stadium of Light?

'For every fiver Celtic spend we'll spend a tenner'...oh how those words are coming back to haunt Rangers. 5 points behind Celtic and they're flogging their 'best' striker (albeit one who only seems to score against the bottom teams!). It seems the global financial crisis has taken its toll on Ibrox and prudence will take priority over regaining the title. Looks like another year of failure, failure for the Gers.

I don't think we'd be able to play Healy and Boyd in the same team anyways, so it's definitely going to be one in, one out if this happens.
As for certain "contributions" to this debate, it's time people stopped reacting to blatent windups, since that's why they're being made.

Good move to a great club for Northern Ireland football's record goalscorer. Moving to Rangers can only be good news for the tens of thousands of Northern Ireland based Rangers supporters and the fantastic followers of Nothern Ireland's international football team. Good luck to all concerned.

Think Healy would be a great signing for The Teddy Bears as he would score a bag full of goals in the SPL.
Personally hope he isnt bought as a replacement for Boydy but as a partner.

Yes Nat, Miller wasn't good enough to wear the Hoops and was released, whereas we definitely had a lucky escape with Lafferty.
I almost feel sorry for the Ibrox faithful and Watty, once upon a time he and they had Laudrup, De Boer, Gascoigne, now they have Lafferty, Healy and Miller!

Tony, you mean the Miller that used to play for you and the Lafferty that you tried to sign before he went to Rangers??

I thought you claimed to be a Spurs fan, Tony?
Changing which football team you support just to fuel petty, sectarian comments - how very "last year" of you.

Hopefully having got shot of the impotent and out-of-his-depth Roy Keane, this opportunity will go ahead giving Sir the opportunity of working with a manager of excellent pedigree, which will improve his performances playing for his country too.

A chance for David to prove that he can fail in Scotland as well as in England!
With a strike force of Miller, Healy and Lafferty we Celts can start celebrating the four in a row already!
