Tommy Wright has slammed the operation of the transfer window in the Carling Premiership.
And the Lisburn Distillery boss has challenged Irish FA chiefs to lobby FIFA and UEFA and have the system abolished for lesser leagues such as in Northern Ireland.
“I think in a league like ours the transfer window is pointless,” said Wright, whose team is ten points adrift at the bottom of the table before tomorrow’s home game with Ballymena United.
“I know why we have to have it, but that doesn’t mean I agree with it. As the top league in the country we have to come into line along with the English Premier League, La Liga in Spain, Italy’s Serie A and the German Bundesliga. When you mention those leagues you realise how ridiculous it is. I think the clubs need to go to the IFA and get them to ask for the transfer window rules to be changed for smaller leagues.”
