Shamrock Rovers confirm Real Madrid match

After weeks of speculation, Shamrock Rovers last night officially announced that they will take on Real Madrid in a lucrative friendly at the Tallaght Stadium on Monday July 20.

Tallaght has already been host to numerous television channels from abroad documenting the venue of the possible debuts of Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka for Los Galacticos in Dublin, but the Hoops finally rubber-stamped it yesterday after getting the all-clear from the FAI.

A crowd of 9,000 will pack into the League of Ireland's newest stadium for the friendly with 5,700 temporary seats to be installed to add to the current 3,300 capacity stand in the South Dublin City Council-owned facility.

“This really is a dream fixture for any club to have,” said Rovers chairman Jonathan Roche yesterday,
