The future’s bright for Ballymena, insists Lockhart

Darren Lockhart is confident that the good times are just around the corner for Ballymena United.

And he is pointing to the club’s array of young stars as evidence that the future is bright for the Sky Blues.

United scored their first win of the season when they upset champions Glentoran last Wednesday night and now Lockhart is demanding that the feelgood factor around the club keeps going by winning at home to Glenavon this evening.

“We looked solid against the Glens and now that we’ve got that result we have to be focused on one game at a time and look to get another three points against Glenavon,” he said. “We lost our first four games of the season, but it wasn’t that we were playing badly, we just weren’t getting that wee bit of luck that you look for.

“When I look around the squad there is a lot of talent and some superb young players.

“George Stewart has come in and he’s been excellent. He has a great turn of pace and is a great prospect.

“Ormo Okunayia had a very good pre-season and has carried on from there with a few goals along the way.

“Our full-backs — Michael Smyth and Lee Colligan — have been excellent. They are exciting, full of energy and get up and down all day long.”

Glenavon manager Marty Quinn will bring Mark Gracey into his defence tonight in the absence of Hugh Dickson, who is expected to be missing for a number of months after suffering a fractured skull while scoring against Cliftonville last week.
