Down Area Winter Football League round-up September 16

The main action from the DAWFL came from the opening round of the Billy Allen Memorial Shield. Abbey Villa III, a semi-finalist last year, lost 4-3 against Vision Athletic. Greenwell Star won 6-3 to knock out Division One’s Ballygowan. The 82nd move forward thanks to an 8-1 victory over Clandeboye YM. Newtown Forest lost 8-2 to Comber Star.

Last year’s quarter-finalists 3rds Bangor OB lost 2-1 to Ravenhill YM to make an early exit from the cup. Ballywalter Rec III won 4-3 over Bryansburn Rangers III. Stranmillis 37th OB proceed to the next round following a 4-2 win over Bangor Swifts III. Brentwood won 4-3 over Oakfield Breda to remain in the cup.

In the Premiership, Moat Park Rangers extended their winning streak to seven out of seven with an away 4-2 victory over Willowfield Parish to remain at the top of the table. Corrymeela, usually major contenders in the league but having struggled so far this season, lost 3-1 away to Comber YM. Elsewhere, 8th OB won 2-0 at home against Castlereagh Colts to move into second place.

 In Division One, North Down showed that last season's poor form is forgotten with a 5-1 away win over Bangor YM III. Bangor Rangers III won an impressive 8-0 at home over Ards Rangers III.
