Walker happy to be underdog

Ballymena manager Roy Walker

Roy Walker insists Crusaders go into tonight’s County Antrim Shield semi-final showdown against his men as “overwhelming favourites.”

The Crues are sitting pretty at the top of the Carling Premiership after kicking on in style after their Irish Cup heroics while Ballymena United have been starved of trophy success.

It has been an up-and-down season for the Braidmen and their supporters will anticipate another roller-coaster ride at Solitude tonight.

“Crusaders have won every trophy in the local game since 1997 and this season they have been in superb form,” said Walker, who guided the Hatchetmen to title success in 1995 and 1997.

“Now they are top of the league and that’s why they are overwhelming favourites to beat us.

“We are very much the underdogs while they have more consistency and trophy winning history on their side.

“I know we meet again on Saturday but I’m not even thinking of that game as this is a great chance to make it to a final.

“I’m expecting a big crowd and good atmosphere. Unfortunately we do not have a big squad allowing me to make several changes but my kids are playing well going into this David v Goliath fixture.

“On Saturday we got the result we deserved and hopefully we can now make it to a major final.”

Walker has former Crues midfielder Darren Lockhart available for selection after serving his suspension.
