Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws says Northern Ireland striker Warren Feeney is the perfect man to drag the Owls away from a potential relegation dogfight.

Feeney signed a one-month loan deal with Wednesday yesterday, a move that could be extended until the end of the season.

The east-Belfast man has found it difficult to break into the Cardiff City side since recovering from a hip operation, with the Bluebirds boasting the most lethal strike partnership in the Championship — with Peter Whittingham and Michael Chopra hitting 21 goals between them.

Now Laws, whose side have collectively scored just three more than Chopra and Whittingham in the league, is looking to Feeney to push Wednesday up the table.

The Owls are currently 17th in the Championship, just three points ahead of third from bottom Plymouth.

“Cardiff City have plenty of attacking options so it has been difficult for Warren to force his way into the team,” Laws said.

“I am really pleased that Dave Jones has allowed Warren to join us because he is an attack-minded player with a lot to offer in the final third.”

Another Northern Ireland international leaving Cardiff on-loan is left-back Tony Capaldi, who has joined Leeds United until January.

Under-21 defender Johnny Flynn has secured a loan move to League Two side Accrington Stanley after spending a month with Conference club Chester City.
