Whites sunk by Saints

Thursday, 23 July 2009

St Johnstone their short pre-season tour of Northern Ireland off to a winning start against Lisburn Distillery but Derek McInnes' side found themselves a goal down after just seven minutes.

Glenn Ferguson's initial shot was blocked, the ball came out to Gareth Corey and he drilled his shot low into the bottom corner.

Two minutes later Gavin Swankie broke clear on the left but his pass was behind striker Colin Samuel. Swankie though made amends on 12 minutes, the midfielder heading home from 10 yards.

Two minutes before the break Phil Matthews was beaten by Philipe Morrais but Philip Simpson made a superb block to keep the scores level at the break.

The Saints pressed hard after the break and a fine solo effort from Liam Craig put them ahead on 58 minutes. Craig broke into the box, slipped past Matthews and his angled shot just eluded Dave Rogers.

Substitute Chris Millar finished off a pass from Paul Sheerin eight minutes from time to seal the win.
