Aiden McGeady has been given permission to miss the Republic of Ireland's friendly against Argentina on Wednesday to finalise his future.

The Celtic winger is on the verge of a move to Spartak Moscow and Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni said: "We let him go and make what he must do (sic).

"Maybe he will go to Russia but at the moment he is not with us."

Trapattoni also confirmed Glenn Whelan and Sean St Ledger have been ruled out of the game through injury, while Marc Wilson, Caleb Folan and Shane Long are also unavailable.

Richard Dunne and Kevin Doyle are carrying knee and leg injuries respectively but Trapattoni added: "They are having scans to clarify their injuries but I think everything will be okay in the next 48 hours."
