Keke tips Ards to steer away from drop
Dungannon Swifts 3 Ards 3
Guillaume Keke believes another two wins should be enough to ensure Ards are playing Premiership football again next term.
The striker scored twice - including a goal of the season contender - in Saturday's high-scoring draw with Dungannon Swifts at Stangmore Park.
It keeps the Co Down side 12 points above the drop zone as the campaign enters its final weeks.
Keke said: "We need a couple more victories to be safe and not feel trapped towards the end of the season. I think we'll do it, I am hopeful."
The game was level at the break after Douglas Wilson's header cancelled out Keke's early strike for Ards.
The French striker then put the visitors back in front with a stunning right-foot drive shortly after the restart.
But back came Dungannon, who turned it around with two goals in the space of seven minute. Andrew Mitchell levelled with a close-range header and then Cormac Burke swept home a classy strike to make it 3-2.
However, Ards grabbed a point when Gary Liggett came off the bench to head the equaliser.
Keke admitted his second strike was among the best goals he has scored.
"When I'm in confidence that is what I can do," he said. "But football is more in your head, so if your confidence is away you can do nothing.
"It's football. At the time I just took the ball, turned and bang. For a long time I didn't score so I was happy to get this one.
"It was really important for us to get the point here. We needed the point. I thought we deserved better, but if we give away sloppy goals every time there is a corner or a free-kick we're not going to get anything."
Despite a healthy lead over the bottom two, Ards boss Colin Nixon insists he isn't taking survival for granted.
"There is no breathing space in this league, no respite. We will just keep working until we are assured of survival," he said.
Dungannon boss Rodney McAree admitted this was two points dropped. "To score three goals and not win the game is very frustrating. Ards will probably look at it the same way," he said.
