Mitchell at the double to boost Dungannon's Euro play-off bid
Ballinamallard United 1 Dungannon Swifts 4
Andrew Mitchell struck twice as Dungannon Swifts tightened their grip on seventh with a 4-1 victory at Ferney Park last night.
The striker brought his tally to 24 goals for the campaign with a brace in the first half while Ryan Harpur was also on target as the Swifts went in at the break 3-1 up, the Mallards goal coming from Warner Mullan.
And the Swifts ensured the victory when Dougie Wilson headed home from a corner to keep them in the driving seat for a European play-off spot.
In an open first half, Peter McMahon hit the woodwork for the Swifts before the visitors took the lead in the 23rd minute.
A quickly taken corner caught the Mallards napping and Harpur was left free to head home.
However, the Mallards were level three minutes later as Mullan slotted home after good play from Ryan Curran.
Dungannon, though, regained the upper hand. Mitchell waltzed through the Mallards defence before firing home to put the Swifts back in front and he then tapped home in the 35th minute.
The second half was a much more scrappy contest and although Dungannon remained in control, the Mallards did go close to a second as Curran headed against the post.
The Swifts made sure of the points 10 minutes from time when Wilson headed home a Cormac Burke corner.
