Glenavon 0 Ballymena United 2: Roy Walker's battlers produced two sucker punches boxing champion Brian Magee would have been proud of.
The European super middleweight champion was in the stand as a guest of Glenavon president Gordon Irwin.
But on the night it was the home side on the canvas after an early blow winded them and a late hammer blow floored them.
Gary McCutcheon delivered the first after only seven minutes and sub Richard Gibson the second three minutes from time.
“I want my players to stand up and be counted,” said Walker, “We’ve gone some way down the road and it’s pleasing.
“Certainly on this occasion we showed the resolve and determination I’ve been demanding. It’s true I wanted more local players in the side and at the moment we have a good nucleus.
“I’ve heard it said we’re a Jekyll and Hyde side presumably on the back of what has happened in recent weeks, the defeat by Donegal Celtic and then the win at Portadown and this one.
“We’re a team not really expected to come here and win but on the occasion we showed resolve and determination.”
