Owens confident Sky Blues can rock Windsor title hopes

By Graham Luney

Kyle Owens says he's loving life at Ballymena United and he's confident the Sky Blues can torpedo Linfield's title challenge at Windsor Park tomorrow.

The last time the Sky Blues rolled up at the international venue there was a sting in the tail as Mark Stafford's diving header deep into added time sealed a 2-1 victory for Linfield.

It was a bitter pill for David Jeffrey's side to swallow but they can take significant encouragement from that battling display as they return to the home of the title chasers.

Owens, who joined the Braidmen from Knockbreda last May, has shone in the United defence and that rearguard could be busy at Windsor Park. "We can take a lot of positives from that performance at Windsor," said Owens. "We almost grabbed a point and it was a silly mistake that allowed them to equalise and that, sadly, has been a feature of many of our matches.

"But I feel if we can defend well we have enough quality to cause them problems again and even win the game. You have to defend well at Windsor but we have shown that we can compete with the best teams in the league and the pressure is on Linfield to keep winning and stay in touch with Crusaders.

"They beat the Crues but then lost at home to Coleraine and I've got that feeling that the champions will not be caught. They will edge it with the rest fighting for second place but Linfield are still one of the strongest sides in the league and it will take a top performance from us to take points off them.

"We have a few boys suspended and others on four bookings and one away from a suspension including Jim Ervin so that can affect the squad."
