Big Mac happy as Glentoran get back in race

Published 18/11/2008

Glentoran manager Alan McDonald today praised the character of his side after their vital 2-0 victory over Cliftonville at Solitude in the JJB Sports premiership .

After three defeats in a row, the Glens needed to get back on the winning trail, especially with Big Two rivals Linfield finding their league form, and they did exactly that thanks to a cracking goal from Shane McCabe and a Colin Nixon penalty.

McDonald’s men are now just one point behind leaders Linfield and Crusaders. Crucially though the Blues and Glens have TWO games in hand.

“We knew it would be difficult against Cliftonville but the players worked hard and showed great character,” said McDonald.

“It was a fabulous response to our defeat at Crusaders.”

While Glentoran are well and truly in the title race, Cliftonville – who challenged at the top of the table for the past two seasons – find themselves way back in tenth.
