Birthday boy set to make cut at Crusaders

By Stuart McKinley

Crusaders manager Stephen Baxter looks set to hand his back-up goalkeeper Wayne Drummond an early 21st birthday present.

Former Millwall and Rangers trainee Drummond turns 21 on Sunday and before blowing out the candles he will be given the chance to fill the void left by Sean O’Neill’s injury as Baxter’s search for a replacement continues.

With O’Neill ruled out for the season after dislocating his shoulder in last Saturday’s Irish Cup clash with Linfield, Drummond is almost certain to face his old club Ballymena United on Saturday.

Since discovering the extent of O’Neill’s injury Baxter has been scouring the market for someone to step in to help his team’s assault on four trophies.

The Crues boss is understood to have invited a goalkeeper from the Republic of Ireland for a trial at Seaview this evening, but with time running out before the weekend he will put his faith in Drummond against the Sky Blues.

e GLENTORAN’S Setanta Sports Cup first round trip to St Patrick’s Athletic will be broadcast live by the competition sponsors on Monday, February 11.

Seven matches in all will be screened live — one on each match night — culminating in the final on Saturday, May 11.
