Coleraine must put an end to mistakes, says McVey

Kyle McVey is tipping Coleraine’s season to take off — if they can cut out individual errors.

The Bannsiders have shot themselves in the foot too often this season and manager David Platt will demand an end to the lapses in concentration.

A home clash with Institute tomorrow is the perfect opportunity for the Bannsiders to turn a corner and slam the foot on the accelerator.

A win would lift Platt’s side five points clear of their north-west rivals at a stage of the season when confidence may be fragile.

After the 3-2 defeat at Glenavon, McVey accepts that every player is going to have to step up to the mark to return to winning ways.

“Unfortunately, we have gone off the boil and players have made costly mistakes,” he said. “Whether it is the defence not doing the right thing at the back or the strikers not scoring we all have to take responsibility and put things right.

“You win or lose as a team and it is a collective effort. There are a lot of young players in the team so the older ones must accept more responsibility and lead by example. We are always guaranteed a tough game against Institute but it is very important that our home form improves.”
