Oran Kearney's kids drive the charge for Coleraine
Carrick Rangers 1-2 Coleraine
Coleraine manager Oran Kearney believes his side's good form, which now extends to three wins on the bounce, is down to the younger players in his squad.
"The young lads in the side have put in some great performances and they're driving the more experienced players," said Kearney. "They're fearless but what they lack in guile they probably make up for in enthusiasm. There's a great chemistry with the older players, that's been the key for us. Brad Lyons was good today and he took his goal well, Rodney Brown gave them problems all afternoon with his aerial ability and Lyndon Kane wasn't even involved today because of international duty. Also, I thought young McLaughlin took his goal well; it was a calm and assured finish, and the hardest thing to do in this game is put the ball in the net."
The visitors got off to a flier with the first goal coming after just 35 seconds from Lyons but the 'Gers came back into it after 13 minutes when Ben Roy equalised with an absolute blinder before James McLaughlin's winner in the 58th minute. The win leaves Coleraine just four points behind leaders Crusaders and Linfield and a mere point behind Cliftonville in third. Carrick, on the other hand, lie fourth from bottom following their third league defeat in a row.
Manager Gary Haveron, a former Coleraine player, took his time coming out of the dressing room, having had a long talk with his players after the final whistle.
"We were architects of our own downfall and I'm not happy with our defending. The boys need to stand up and be counted, we're losing points too often late in games. It's the first time under my management that we've lost three on the bounce so we need a reaction, but we'll get back on track through our collective effort."
