Cliftonville 1-3 Crusaders: Crues join the greats with Premiership double

Crusaders have retained the Irish League title after beating their north Belfast rivals Cliftonville 3-1.

A goal by Gavin Whyte in the first half and two strikes by Paul Heatley in the second ensured a Crues victory at Solitude.

The result means Crues have secured back-to-back title wins for the first time in the club's 118-year history with a victory at the home of derby rivals.

A year ago, Heatley's winner at Solitude effectively fired the north-Belfast side to their first league championship since 1997 and manager Stephen Baxter launched himself onto the fence during wild celebrations.

Crusaders suffered financial headaches for years and were relegated in 2005 but have since written one of the great Irish League fairytales.

Stephen Baxter's side have lost just three of the 36 league games they have played to date this season.
