Curtis Allen has sights on starting role for Linfield

By Chris Holt

Curtis Allen is hoping that his two-goal haul in Tuesday night’s Paddy Power Co Antrim Shield win over Cliftonville will be enough to secure a starting berth in the Linfield forward line.

Before that success over the Reds, Allen had been forced to take up a place on the bench this season with Paul Munster and Peter Thompson the preferred options up front.

However, those two goals, which followed on from a winner in the Blues’ last league game, away to Newry City, have pushed the former Northern Ireland under 21 star to the top of the Windsor Park goalscoring ranks and Allen is urging David Jeffrey to keep him in the team which will again face Cliftonville this Saturday in the Carling Premiership.

“I spoke to David and expressed to him my willingness to play and try and score the goals that we have been lacking a bit this season,” said Allen. “Obviously there is a big squad here and he felt that Peter Thompson and Paul Munster were his best options so it was up to me to just try and take my chance.

“Thankfully I started against Cliftonville hopefully I have done enough to at least give the manager something to think about.

“It’s difficult for him because the squad is so big and you have four or five forward players trying to get into the two positions on the team, so it’s a case of taking every chance that comes your way.”
