Derry have something extra as Jarvis sends them into semis
Cork City 1-2 Derry City (AET)
Derry City produced a heroic display to defeat Cork City at Turner's Cross last night and earn a place in the EA Sports League Cup semi-finals.
Just three days after losing to Sligo Rovers at the Brandywell. Kenny Shiels' team dug deep to stun Cork, even coming from behind, to win in extra-time thanks to a goal from full-back Dean Jarvis.
Despite a promising start to the game, Derry suffered a blow early on when a daisy-cutter free kick from Mark O'Sullivan flew through a poor Derry City wall and past Gerard Doherty to give the hosts a 10th minute lead.
City responded brilliantly, however, and were level by half time, Keith Ward finding Barry McNamee, who brought the Candystripes level with an exquisite finish.
There was no winner after 90 minutes and the game went to extra-time.
To the delight of the small band of travelling supporters, it was Derry who nicked victory. Nathan Boyle crossed for Jarvis, who stooped low to send a header into the net and put City into the last four.
