Dixie targets second place for Dungannon Swifts

Dixie Robinson believes Dungannon Swifts can finish as high as second in the league.
Dungannon will confirm their place in the top six if they beat title challengers Cliftonville at Stangmore Park tomorrow afternoon.
But Robinson is aiming even higher, and believes a strong finish could see his side break into the top four and even finish as runners-up.
“If Linfield go on and win the league comfortably, as I think they will, they will take points off other teams and leave the second spot up for grabs,” he said. “A win on Saturday will leave us within a point of Cliftonville with six games to go, and I think second place is there for any of the top six.”
After finishing bottom of the table last time, it has been a remarkable turnaround for Dungannon, regardless of where they finish this season.
But Robinson does not want the campaign to fizzle out, and he is demanding a strong finish from his players.
“Our main focus has been on getting into the top six, but we are greedy for success,” he added. “We keep setting the boys targets.
“If we can secure a place in the top six this weekend, then we’ll look to the top four and beyond.
“Europe is a possibility, I don’t know yet what will be good enough, but if we can make progress up the table I’ll be taking a closer look at it.”
The Reds are one of just two teams – the other is Linfield – that Dungannon have yet to beat this season.
