Donegal Celtic 0 Lisburn Distillery 3

Donegal Celtic moved quickly to counter speculation surrounding the role of new boss Declan McGreevy, who was appointed before Saturday’s defeat to Lisburn Distillery at Celtic Park.

McGreevy was named on the official team-sheet as ‘caretaker manager’ and it appears that will remain the case for a grace period of 60 days.

Club officials were adamant that, while they expected ‘speculation and rumour’ over McGreevy’s qualifications, he was the man they opted for following a series of interviews that included Pat McAllister and Colin Malone — and that he was the man they were standing by.

It may occur that Celtic will need to appoint a new interim manager with the necessary coaching badges until McGreevy gains his and it is expected the club will meet with the IFA to discuss McGreevy’s role.

Be he caretaker manager, kit-man or bellboy, McGreevy got off to the worst possible start with the Whites’ win lifting them off the foot of the table and dragged Celtic into that spot, still looking for their first win of the season.

Second half goals from Michael Halliday, Jordan Hughes and Gary Liggett gave the Whites their second.
