Dungannon Swifts boss Rodney McAree says it will be several weeks before new signing Peter McMahon is ready to play.

The winger is returning from a long-term hip joint injury that has kept him out of action since featuring for former club Portadown in November last year - and McAree is wary about rushing him back too quickly.

"Hopefully he will be back within the next six weeks," he said. "We're leaving him out just to do a good bit of strength work and rehab work.

"He has trained four or five times with us and it certainly doesn't seem to be too much of a problem.

"He gets a little bit of discomfort towards the end of training.

"We are trying to build his strength up all around the area so that it supports it a wee bit more and hopefully then he will be fighting fit."

McAree said patience is the main thing, adding: "We signed Peter knowing that he was going to be three or four weeks away from performing.

"But he is a good signing if and when we get him on the pitch."
