Neal Gawley has re-signed for Glenavon - barely six weeks after quitting the Irish League to start a new life in Australia.

Gawley kept the promise he made before jetting to Perth to join Western Australian Premier League side Arnadale managed by former Kilmarnock ace Billy Russell.

News of Gawley's return even took Lurgan boss Colin Malone by surprise, but he said: "I told the lad before he left that he would always be welcome back if it didn't work out.

"I'm not sure what happened or why he has returned so soon, but I'm happy to have him back in the squad.

"He'll be available for selection again just as soon as his international clearance comes through."

Twenty-one-year-old Gawley said: "Glenavon were always good to me so I made them a promise to re-join them if I ever came back."
