Gillespie kicks off his Glentoran career

By Chris Holt

Keith Gillespie last night turned out in a Glentoran shirt for the first time and is now aiming for a Setanta Sports Cup clash with Bohemians.

The 86-capped Northern Ireland international may have played in front of tens of thousands of fans in stadiums like Old Trafford and the Nou Camp, but it was the far more modest surroundings of the Ballymena Showgrounds with just a few dozen in attendance where Gillespie first donned the green, red and black last night for Glentoran Seconds.

The 34 year-old started in a 1-0 defeat to Ballymena United Reserves and played around an hour before coming off.

Gillespie will not be in contention for a place in the first team to play Ballymena United tonight, but is likely to at least be on the bench when the Setanta Sports Cup kicks off against Bohs at the Oval.
