Glentoran to splash cash

Glentoran boss Alan McDonald will try and bolster his forward line in the January transfer window after losing patience in his goal-shy strikers.

The Glens were held to a 0-0 draw by Dungannon Swifts at the Oval last night — a point which brought them slightly closer to Carling Premiership leaders Linfield, but one which give the Blues the impetus to put more light between them and their rivals with their game in hand.

“With the firepower we have we aren’t getting anywhere near the goals we should be,” said McDonald. “Now to address that — we don’t have the finances to be perfectly honest.

“My only chance as a manager, with the backing of the fans is to get to the transfer window and we see what’s available.

“First and foremost, Mattie Burrows (currently on loan) will be re

called from Loughgall, that’s already been sorted out, and if the fans are patient with us, what I need to do is get to the transfer window.”

Of his potential targets, McDonald added: “I wouldn’t want to name individual players but I have a couple of irons in the fire.

“I am probably going to have to offload someone before I bring anyone in. The Chairman is on holiday and is back (today) and as soon as he is back I will be meeting with him or will speak on the phone to tell him what in think needs to be done.”
