Nacho Novo will shine soon, insists Glentoran boss Alan Kernaghan
Portadown 0-1 Glentoran
He's been here less than a month, but already Nacho Novo is emerging as a contender to be the most photographed Irish League player of all time.
At the end of Glentoran's 1-0 win over Portadown on Saturday, the new Oval hero posed for pictures with fans after going over to the away end to pass a message to a friend.
There wasn't much chance for the official photographers to get snaps of the Spanish striker, as he only came on in the 82nd minute, taking his total playing time to a modest 126 minutes in four games, with no goals as yet.
Novo hasn't been able to fully train as yet but Glens boss Alan Kernaghan is expecting his summer capture to be in the picture much more in the coming weeks.
"We just need to get Nacho up to speed so that he can last the full 90 minutes," said Kernaghan.
"We know he is a good player, we see in training that his finishing is fantastic. We just need to get him a chance and I have no doubt that he will stick it away."
Kym Nelson got the decisive goal seven minutes into the second half following a powerful burst to the edge of the box and a shot that beat David Miskelly low to his left.
The Ports' attacking threat was blunted when Mark McAllister failed to return after half-time due to a hamstring injury, but the lively Stephen Hughes did rattle the outside of a post.
Any hopes of an equaliser were hit late on when Niall Henderson saw red after a second yellow card offence.
