Poll: Is new Glentoran boss Gary Haveron right man for The Oval?
New boss told: Good luck, you will need it
Eddie Patterson has sent a good luck message to Gary Haveron after the former Carrick Rangers boss was handed the challenge of steering Glentoran back to the top of domestic football.
Haveron will be unveiled as the new Glens boss at The Oval this afternoon and Patterson, who guided the east Belfast side to two Irish Cup wins in three seasons before being sacked in October last year, called on the club's board to remove the weight of expectation from the new manager's shoulders.
"Gary should be given time and space to transform the team the way he sees fit," said Patterson. "No one should be putting him under pressure by highlighting the history of the club or its demands. It's a huge rebuilding job. He will need some luck but he shouldn't have to set about the task with pressure on his shoulders.
"When I was at the club I heard about the demands and pressures from the board but the club's budget had been cut dramatically over time.
"The Glens are 10th in the league and a reality check is needed at the moment."
