Irish FA bank major new deal
Fans of top clubs in Northern Ireland can bank on plenty of competitive action over the next 10 months after the announcement of new sponsors for local football’s top league.
The Irish FA have struck a deal with Danske Bank to sponsor the Premiership.
And if you haven’t heard of Danske Bank before, then all that’s about to change.
They are the parent company of Northern Bank and from November a major re-brand will see all branches in Northern Ireland carry the Danske Bank name.
“We are absolutely delighted to announce this sponsorship,” said IFA chief executive Patrick Nelson.
“The Danske Bank Premiership is the flagship competition in domestic football in Northern Ireland and is followed by thousands of loyal supporters each week.
“This investment into the highest level of our local game will be a huge support in developing the league.”
Northern Bank chief executive Gerry Mallon said: “The Danske Bank Premiership is a really significant and exciting sponsorship for us and marks the first time our new brand identity will be visible in the market.”
The IFA didn’t reveal how long the deal with Danske Bank will run for, or the level of investment they will put into the local game.
It is, however, understood to be initially for only 12 months and will at least match the £80,000 per year sum that was pumped in by previous sponsors Carling.
The Danske Bank Premiership season kicks-off on Saturday, August 11 when champions Linfield will travel to Ballymena United.
