Jeffrey's joy as Blues are left red-faced

David Jeffrey's first match against his old club Linfield ended in delight after Ballymena United put in an outstanding performance, winning their League Cup clash 4-1.

"We certainly played well tonight," Jeffrey said after the game. "We worked very hard and I'm very pleased with the result."

It's the first time as a boss that Jeffrey has come up against the side he won 31 trophies with as a manager, but his side showed no mercy to the Blues.

Aided by a red card to Ross Gaynor, the Sky Blues put Linfield to the sword through a double from Johnny McMurray, with Cathair Friel and Willie Faulkner also getting on the scoresheet.
