Kearney has the holders in his sights

Oran Kearney would love the opportunity to do what Portadown did last season.

First, however, he has to earn a tie against the Ports, who won the Co-operative Insurance Cup as an intermediate side last season.

Kearney’s Limavady United host Ballinamallard United tonight, with a quarter-final meeting against the Ports the reward for the winners — who will be at home to the Shamrock Park men on Saturday.

“The players are up for the game and everyone at the club is really looking forward to it,” said Kearney.

“We fancy a crack at Portadown, but so will Ballinamallard and with the first leg being drawn 0-0 it’s delicately poised.

“It’s hard for an underdog over two legs, which shows just how well Portadown did last season.”
