New Linfield manager David Healy has vowed to use lessons learned from working under managerial greats like Sir Alex Ferguson in his bid to take the Blues back to the top of Irish League football.

Healy, who has joined the club on a two-and-a-half-year contract, was paraded in front of the Linfield fans at Windsor Park last night before a 1-0 League Cup defeat to Ballinamallard.

If that was a letdown there is a real feeling of excitement at this appointment, not just at Linfield but around the Irish League.

It is a real statement of intent by Linfield in securing Healy as a replacement for his former international team-mate Warren Feeney, who quit last week to become assistant manager of Newport County.

Healy is a Northern Ireland sporting legend for his goalscoring heroics at international level.

In his club career he played under massive names such as Ferguson, Walter Smith and Roy Keane.

Healy said last night: "As a player I learned from working with great managers and I intend to put that knowledge to good use as manager of Linfield.

"It's an honour and a privilege to manage Linfield. I want to bring more success to this great club."
