Lawlor’s summer snub
Cliftonville chairman Gerard Lawlor insists summer football is not the answer after the entire Carling Premiership programme fell victim to the icy weather yesterday.
At a financially crippling time for all clubs here, just one game has taken place during the normally lucrative festive period, hitting everyone in the pocket.
However, Lawlor doesn’t believe that following the example of League of Ireland clubs and switching to the summer is the right road to go down.
“I think we are hanging on the coat-tails of football fever in England and Scotland,” he said.
“If we try summer football then, when the leagues in England and Scotland finish, I think people will lose interest in local football as well at that time.”
