Brendan was the one who got me into dugout
Linfield boss David Healy has revealed how Brendan Rodgers inspired him to become a successful manager ahead of a potential Champions League showdown between the Blues and Celtic next month.
If Healy's men can defeat San Marino side La Fiorita, they will book a second qualifying round battle with Rodgers' Celtic, a glamour tie that will net the Danske Bank Premiership champions a cool £1million.
When Rodgers was Liverpool boss, Northern Ireland's record goalscorer Healy visited the Carnlough man while completing his coaching badges and his advice and encouragement helped the rookie manager hit the ground running at Linfield.
"I learned a huge amount from Brendan," said Healy, who, like Rodgers, guided his side to a domestic treble last season. "Tapping into his knowledge and expertise was a real insight for me."
Talks with the PSNI and Celtic are ongoing regarding dates for the games, with Linfield considering an early kick-off of 5.30pm on July 11 for the Windsor Park tie.
