Josh Carson has admitted that David Healy's other summer signings were a big reason why he joined Linfield.

Healy has aimed high as he tries to put a title-winning squad together, with four of his seven summer signings boasting full international honours.

The four 'Cs' - Roy Carroll, Chris Casement, Sammy Clingan and Carson himself - also come with extensive full-time experience and those captures have been a real statement of intent ahead of the Blues first season under Healy's management.

"Seeing Linfield sign Roy Carroll and Sammy Clingan was a big encouragement for me," said Carson, who was released by York City at the end of last season.

"It is great to have players of that calibre in the squad and I think even the players who were already here would admit that it is a positive thing that we have strengthened so well - even if the new players are challenging them for their place.

"We have to challenge at the top of the league and the players that the manager has signed will definitely help us do that."

Carson made his Linfield debut as a 70th minute sub in Saturday's 2-1 win at Ballinamallard and is hungry to start against Coleraine tonight. Clingan didn't feature in that game and after playing just two friendlies following 16-month injury absence he may have to wait a little longer for his competitive bow.
