Haughey poised to snub Cliftonville and extend his stay with Linfield

Linfield defender Mark Haughey is set to ignore the attentions of Cliftonville by signing a fresh deal with the Blues.

The 25-year-old has been a target for the Reds this month but is set to disappoint Gerard Lyttle by putting pen to paper on a new two-year contract that will keep him at Windsor Park until the end of the 2018/19 season.

The versatile star, who has also attracted interest from former club Glenavon, has been shifted to play at right-back in recent months with Jimmy Callacher and Mark Stafford viewed as David Healy's preferred centre-back pairing for the title-chasing Blues. But Haughey, who left Glenavon for Linfield in 2013, is understood to be keen to stay at the club as he is a regular in the the first-team, even if it is not in his preferred position.

Striker Andrew Waterworth is also expected to extend his contract by a further two years in the coming days after impressing in front of goal once again this season.

The ex-Glentoran front man lost his place early in the campaign but quickly rediscovered his goal-scoring boots and is the club's top scorer this term.
