Lisburn Distillery warned over Owens
Martin Donnelly has warned Lisburn Distillery to keep their eye on Jordan Owens this afternoon.
Owens has started the season in top gear, slamming in two goals in a 3-1 win at Donegal Celtic and then netting the second in Northern Ireland Under-23’s 2-0 victory over Poland.
Donnelly, who scored the opener in that clash at Coleraine on Wednesday, is backing the in-form striker to pile misery on a Whites team that crashed 6-1 to Glentoran in the opening weekend.
Crusaders will be hungry to record a first home league win of the season and the players want to hold onto that winning feeling from last weekend.
Owens has been linked with a move to Doncaster Rovers and Tranmere Rovers — however Doncaster have signed 19-year-old Tottenham forward Ryan Mason on-loan for an initial month.
“I have never seen Jordan play better than in that win over Donegal Celtic,” said Donnelly.
“He was awesome, his finishing was first class and he held the ball up so well.
“His goal against Poland this week was first class and he just has so much confidence at the moment. He looks so fit and hungry.
“There was some interest in him from clubs across the water and I can understand why but hopefully he keeps banging in the goals for Crusaders.”
Donnelly has also kicked off the season in sparkling style but he is expecting a Whites backlash today.
“They will be up for this game after that hammering last week,” added the Northern Ireland international.
“I know Tommy Wright and he will have the boys fired up. I think that result was a one-off, they are a very good side with excellent players. But we want to try to get a winning run going.”
