Local football legends meet the fans

Football fans are being offered the chance to get up close and personal with star players and legends from their favourite Carling Premiership team.

The ‘Carling Presents an Evening of Legends’ series, which kicked off last night, allows supporters of each top-tier team to take part in an open Q&A forum with their heroes.

An evening dedicated to each of the 12 teams is planned - the first took place last night as Glentoran supporters got to meet and quiz legends Billy Caskey and Jim Cleary as well as current heroes Paul Leeman and Keith Gillespie.

The BBC’s Jackie Fullerton is hosting each evening and also blogging on each event on the Carling Website.

“I am delighted to be involved in Carling Presents", said Jackie. "It provides football fans with a fantastic opportunity to find out more about the legends and star players of their favourite teams in the Carling Premiership”.

Geoff Wilson from The IFA said: “These events show Carling’s dedication to helping football fans get closer to the team they support. I believe the events will be a big success and fans should register their interest now as places are limited.”

Following the Glentoran night, Lisburn Distillery is next up on Wednesday 25 November. Club legend Tommy Wright and current star Glenn Ferguson will take the hot seats.

Then, on Wednesday 2nd December, Glenavon legends Paul Byrne and Gerard McMahon will be quizzed alongside manager Marty Quinn.

The last event before Christmas takes place on Wednesday 9th December when Cliftonville legends Marty Tabb and John Platt and current striker Chris Scannell will go under the spotlight.

Tickets for these exclusive events are free but places are limited so you are advised to register your interest early. Over 18's only and proof of age may be required. Each event takes place at the relevant club's ground and kicks off with a Carling Drinks Reception at 7.30pm. To apply for a ticket go to the Carling Premiership website.
