Newry City have no fear factor
Newry City winger Francis Murphy sized up the challenge posed by Lisburn Distillery this afternoon and declared: “We can beat anybody on our day.”
This Carling Premiership season has thrown up no end of surprise results and Murphy is banking on that unpredictability continuing as City don their boots for the first time in over a month.
“It’s been frustrating for everyone not getting to play any matches but that’s just the way it’s been,” he said.
“Personally, the break has actually helped me because I’ve been out with a bit of a calf strain so I would have missed those games anyway but I’m really looking forward to getting back down to business, we all are.
“Distillery are a good team and you just need to look at some of the results they’ve picked up right throughout the season to see that, but I wouldn’t say we’ll be going into the game with fear or anything like that.
“There’s not a terrible lot between the teams in this league and sometimes it can just come down to whoever’s up for it more on the day.”
The former Distillery wideman is also hopeful that, despite their lowly standing in the table, City can still go on to enjoy a memorable campaign.
“We’re still in the Co-operative Insurance Cup and the Irish Cup starts for us in a couple of weeks so there’s plenty still to play for there and we know that, if we can just string a few wins together, we can climb the table too,” he added.
