Patton sucker-punch floors Cunningham
Dungannon Swifts 0 Coleraine 1
Dungannon Swifts lost out by the minimum margin against Coleraine for the second time this season when Bannsiders boss Davy Platt sprang Davy Patton off the bench to repeat his feat from their Showgrounds meeting, the experienced striker scoring the only goal on 79 minutes.
Earlier in the game, Swifts had thwarted a number of good chances for the visitors as Dwayne Nelson pulled off a couple of classy saves. And then, late in the tie, it was Coleraine keeper Laurence McCormick's turn to provide the heroics and secure a slender victory.
The result didn’t go the way of his team, but John Cunningham was happy with other aspects of the Dungannon performance and is confident about the future. Summarising the game, he said: “I think we controlled the game and were organised and we were a wee bit unfortunate not to get that goal.
“Both teams had a couple of chances in the first half and, in the second period, we pushed and probed at them but were then hit with a sucker-punch.
“In terms of performance, there was a big change in the team this week. Obviously Coleraine are on an up this week but we are not far away from turning the corner. It is just a matter now of getting everyone back fit and keep pushing.”
