Patton takes Coleraine extra mile to trophy
Coleraine 5 Tobermore United 2
Coleraine required extra time to finally see off brave First Division side Tobermore United and lift the North West Cup last night.
Marty Quinn's men came from 2-1 down to level and two goals from striker Davy Patton helped them seal a late success and gain revenge for defeat by United in last year's showdown.
Coleraine took the lead through skipper Tommy McCallion who connected with striker Jody Tolan's 14th minute pass.
Just before the break Coleraine keeper Davy O'Hare produced a superb save to turn away Paul McLaughlin's header from point blank range.
Tobermore equalised five minutes after the break with Gavin Doherty's shot taking a deflection off defender Paul Gaston on its way to the net.
Three minutes later Doherty beat O'Hare in a race for possession, took the ball around him and steered a shot into the empty net.
Coleraine were back on level terms in the 66th minute as Darren Cassidy clipped a cross into the box where striker Trevor Hutchinson headed home.
Hutchinson was denied late on by United keeper Trevor Morrison and the game went into extra time.
Patton struck on 101minutes. Winger Stephen Carson beat the full-back and Patton found the target. Four minutes later he headed in McCallion's corner and after McCallion's shot was spilled by the keeper Hutchinson pounced on the rebound to make it 5-2 after 117 minutes.
