Portadown move for ex-United kid Curran

Published 18/11/2009

Porrtadown manager Ronnie McFall has snapped up Northern Ireland under-19 international Chris Curran.

And the 18-year-old — who actually hails from Swanlinbar in County Cavan — is in the reckoning to face Linfield in Saturday’s Carling Premiership clash at Shamrock Park.

Curran was released by Manchester United at the end of last season after two years at Old Trafford.

“We were made aware that Chris was available and have brought him in on a short-term contract,” said McFall.

“He is with us until January initially. We will see how things work out between now and then. He’s been at Manchester United, so he’ll bring that experience with him.”

Curran joined Conference side Forest Green Rovers in September, but returned home and the Ports have handed him the chance to get his career back on track.
