Currie vows to turn it around

By Stuart McKinley

Niall Currie has set himself the ultimate goal of making Portadown league title contenders - despite taking over a club that is in the thick of a relegation battle.

The former Ards boss was confirmed as the new manager at Shamrock Park last night and while his target may seem crazy for a boss that is now in charge of a team 13 points adrift at the foot of the Premiership table he is ready for the fight.

"This is too big a club to struggle in the Premiership. It's a massive club," said boyhood Ports fan Currie.

"We have to get the club back playing European football and challenging for league titles.

"The club has proven it before and hopefully we will prove that again."
