Quinn’s timing perfect in relegation battle

Marty Quinn admits that things have come together for Glenavon at just the right time.

Quinn, who arrived from Bangor at the end of January, has overseen the Lurgan men's best form of the season.

Glenavon can rubber-stamp their safety today with a win away to Institute. Modestly though, he insists that it is down to the squad he inherited.

"I've said it before and I don't say it in a patronising fashion but I took over a very good squad here that Stevie McBride had assembled," he insists.

"For whatever reason they hadn't been getting the breaks, but I'm not saying that to blow my own trumpet, they players have gone out and got the results we need.

"Confidence is returning to them again and they are now showing what they are capable of, so it's a nice position to be in."

Tuesday's victory against basement side Dungannon Swifts allowed them to take a massive step towards Premiership safety.

"It does feel as if we were virtually safe but I certainly wouldn't say that we certain to avoid it until it's mathematically certain," Quinn added.

"I've been told that we haven't taken any points off Institute so far this season, so we'll be going up and doing everything we can to get something.

"If we don't get what we are looking for in today's game then we have two games left and we want to finish on a high."
