Shiels hoping Candystripes can taste some League Cup joy

By Eoin Wilson

Kenny Shiels is hoping that Derry City arrest their worrying run of form with victory in tonight's EA Sports League Cup tie at Galway United.

The Candystripes are suffering their worst run of form in two years having lost three successive league games, the latest of which came against rivals Finn Harps on Friday night.

City are back in action straight away though with tonight's cup tie and Shiels believes that the quick turnaround could prove to be a blessing for his team.

"They need to win and we need to win, most of all for morale and to get the boys back up and running again," he said.

"We need to get back to doing what we were doing, playing with a high energy."

Shiels admitted that Harps were fully deserving of their 2-0 victory at Maginn Park.

"We need to get our energy back because we are short-changing our supporters."

He added: "We can't have any excuses. There were things that went on in the game that I didn't like, but we can't look at excuses. In defeat you can learn a lot about players so let's see who has the bite and the determination now."
